Experimental characterization and prediction of forming limit diagrams of PHS1800 during hot stamping

Abstract The use of press-hardening steels (PHSs) in automotive bodies creates the opportunity producing thinner, higher-strength components. PHS1800, an Al-Si coated PHS grade with ultimate tensile strength around 1.8 GPa after hot stamping, is a candidate material for vehicle anti-intrusion applications. current study aims to investigate formability this steel during hot-stamping process. A custom Marciniak punch test and situ digital image correlation (DIC) techniques were used determine in-plane forming limits quenching from austenitic temperature. carrier blank thickness geometry exploited quench surrounding specimens while promoting localization their central regions. Approximately linear strain paths ranging uniaxial biaxial stretching obtained tests avoiding friction out-of-plane bending. limit curves (FLCs) under various conditions then predicted using Marciniak-Kuczyński (MK) model, taking into account temperature strain-rate histories. strains good accord measured data.
